Acne is a very common skin condition throughout the world. More than 80% of teens and people in their twenties suffer from this skin condition and it is also seen in some adults. Usually, most of the people who suffer from acne get rid of them with time and no permanent harm is caused, but in some cases acne leaves ugly acne scars. These scars can be cured by some medications and in some extreme cases, surgical methods need to be employed.
What is a Acne scar?
When acne lesions are healed, they leave hyper-pigmented marks on your skin. Actually, this should not be termed a scar, but a post-inflammatory effect. This is because of the remodeling process of the skin and these scars disappear in 6-8 months. If the pigmentation of skin defect persists for more than 12 months, then it can become a permanent scar.
Prevention of Acne and Scars
Do not let acne lesions occur. This is the best technique to prevent acne scars. First of all you need to understand the factors which are responsible for the acne and then suitable treatment has to be adopted. There are different types of medications based on the type of acne. Some of the medications are topical antibiotics, oral antibiotics, Accutane, Retinoids etc.
Treatment or Acne Scars
The treatment of early scars involves refraining from having too much exposure to sun. Always put on a goo sunscreen before going out in the sun. Use of tretinoin is also very helpful in the skin rejuvenation process. Alpha hydroxy acids and Beta hydroxy acids, at the correct pH can also help the skin recover from the scars. Last but not the least, do not pick at stabs. If you pull a scab before it is ready, it will result in prolonging the remodeling and healing time, and the post inflammatory changes will become even more visible.
