Cancer is one of the deadly and dangerous diseases known so far. Though the disease is curable, yet it is dangerous, and if not treated properly, may cause fatal effects. However, there are plenty of adverse and after effects of Cancer treatment. One of them is Hair loss.
Hair Loss is an important and very common after effects of treatment of cancer, commonly, for chemotherapy. Chemotherapy causes a lot of hair loss, and generally turns the patient bald. The hair gradually becomes dry and brittle and then suddenly starts falling out from their root.
Hair loss occurs in both the genders irrespectively. However, men adapt to it more quickly than women. The bad news is that the rate of hair loss by chemotherapy is very high. Hair starts vanishing at a vigorous rate. But the good news is that the hair loss is not necessarily to be a permanent one. The hair that the body looses because of Chemotherapy tends to come back when the treatment is stopped.
Why hair loss does occur?
In chemotherapy, the patients are deprived from the division of their single cell. Since hair is a single cell that divides, thus, its growth is also blocked in the process of chemotherapy. The anti cancer drug thereby causes the cell to remain undivided and thus hair gradually gets uprooted and falls out of the body. However, once the treatment is stopped, one can see visible hair growths as the cells then can grow normally.
