What are the benefits of ear wax?
Ear wax is a natural formation within your ears and you should not poke into your ear for removing it unless absolutely necessary. It has a vital role to play in the maintenance of healthy ears and also your overall wellbeing.
It keeps the surface of your outer ear canal dry since an excess accumulation of wetness could lead to bacterial growth in the ear. It also helps in maintaining the pH balance inside your ear, which is necessary for countering infections caused by certain fungi and bacteria.
When ear wax should be removed?
Sometime over production ear wax causes hearing problems and recurrent blockades of the ear canal. You may experience other symptoms such as earaches, plugged up ears and ringing in the ear (tinnitus). Under such situations the removal of ear wax may become compulsory.
Safe way to remove ear wax
The removing of ear wax must be done with great care and following appropriate precautions. Never insert stick cotton swabs or any pointed object into your ear because this increases the risk of penetrating your ear drum or removing too much wax, exposing your middle ear to infections.
At first you must soften the wax build-up by applying mineral oil, olive oil or some baby oil using an eyedropper in both ear cavities. This must be done at least a week before the actual removal procedure. Next, you should get a blue rubber syringe and fill it with water heated up to 98.6 degrees approximately.
Now insert the bulb syringe inside your ear canal and press out the water. You would feel pressure in your inner ear and observe clumps of ear wax plugs coming out. Next, wipe your ear holes thoroughly, using dry towels, blowing a hair dryer and putting a little alcohol into the ears.
