What is the purpose of getting a fever?
A fever is a health condition in which the body temperature goes up to 40 degrees Celsius or 104 degree Fahrenheit. A fever could work as a signal for your body that it is facing a possible infection. So, instead of seeing fever as a disease we would do better to regard it as a network for your immune system to tell your brain that the body’s thermostat must be raised to launch an attack on the infected cells.
How to take care of yourself in fever?
Besides taking some prescribed medicines for high fever, you should not do anything to suppress fever. Instead, keep a steady supply of fluids for your body. This is because under the raised body heat there are possibilities of dehydration. You may feel thirsty frequently and each time must gulp down plenty of water.
Try to take at least 10 glasses of water in a day to keep the body fluids flowing. Children must be made to drink 6-10 glasses of water. Sometimes getting a fever could be related to catching a cold or flu infection. In such cases, intake of ample water plays a vital role in flushing out the toxic organisms.
Some tips to soothe down fever
You must keep a tag of the rise or fall in body temperature during fever to know its progress. Do not load yourself with too many clothes and blankets. Try to keep the environment airy and cool to quicken relief. Dip a clean rag in water and wipe your hands, legs, neck and forehead with it.
Keep pressing the wet cloth to the said area until it becomes warm. Try a natural antidote to fever—drink water boiled with garlic, tulsi, poppy seeds or angelica root in small sips to bring down fever.
