What are scabies?
Scabies are a type of parasitic mite called Sarcoptes scabieri, which live in burrows dug in your skin, causing skin problems like rashes, blisters and red bumps. Your fingers, elbows, wrists, chest, stomach and buttocks are the most vulnerable to scabies infestation. Once you have got scabies, the contagious bugs could easily spread to the others members of your family through skin contact and things of personal use.
Problems typical to scabies infection
If you are infested with scabies, you will feel an irresistible irritation in the affected areas. If you scratch the irritations, the scabies bites and sores could get badly infected. Normally the parasites prefer to burrow in the moist and warm parts of your body but they could spread all over the body as well. The constant crawly feel in your skin could force you to spend sleepless nights.
Ways to avoid scabies
Avoid the company of infected persons since everyone is susceptible to scabies infection. You would do better not to touch the personal items like clothes, bed linens, soap, towels, stuffed toys and toothbrush of these people. Also, the infected family member should not be allowed to go out to working place, school or clubs since scabies spreads easily.
How to treat scabies
It is not difficult to get rid of scabies infection if the problem is detected in time. Your doctor might prescribe medicated lotions containing lindane or pyrethrin that curb scabies and their eggs. You must remove your clothes and cover the affected area uniformly with the cream. After leaving on the cream for the prescribed mount of time, you could take a shower to wash it off completely.
Apart from this, you must wash your clothes and beddings in hot water and detergent, vacuum every part of your room elaborately and seal off the non-washable items in a plastic bag to let the mites die.
