Stink bugs, member of the Pentatomidae family are usually found in almost all homes and garden. They are called so because of the offensive odour they produce from thoracic gland. They use this odour for their self defense. They mainly grow in places where tomatoes grow in a garden. Light attracts them. Plants are their main source of food. Hence they are capable of destroying plants.
How to get rid of Stink Bugs?
Stink bugs usually occupy lawns, open fields, gardens. During summer they can survive outside. It is during winter that they seek warm places. So they try to occupy locations under the bark of a tree. In case they do not find a suitable place to survive, they invade your house.
- You can stop them enter your house by keeping doors and windows closed whenever possible. If you open them for some fresh air intake, be careful that the gaps present along the edges are sealed. Gaps anywhere around the house should be found out and then well sealed.
- Find out the eggs of these bugs and eliminate them. The eggs are usually large in number and generally white, yellow or pale green in color. Stink bugs reproduce on the underside of the leaves. Garden plants such as cabbage, watermelons, beans, etc attract these bugs to lay their eggs. Take these eggs into some container and close it tightly.
- Try to keep outdoor lighting away because these bugs are attracted towards light. They can even get attracted to light coming out of the window of your house.
- You may also try out pesticides available in the market. Apply them on the bugs and their eggs directly to kill them.
