Ticks are very small in size, about the size of a pencil tip and are brown in color. They usually prey on animals including humans. They attach themselves to the skin of its host and feeds on their blood. As it is very small in size, it is difficult to notice them. But it gets enlarged after feeding on your blood. These creatures also transmit diseases like Lyme disease which when left unattended, causes infection in heart, nervous system and joints. This disease is particularly common in northern California, parts of Midwest and New Zealand. It also transmits diseases like fever, nausea and rash.
How to exterminate them?
Ticks can attack anyone and everyone but people spending time outside their home in the parks or areas with wooden structures present, are at greater risk. Being in close contact with someone who has been infected by ticks can also be dangerous. So you should be aware about a few precautions so that you do not get infected by these parasites.
Ways to get rid of Ticks
- Keep a track on the pets. Add to your pet’s hygiene routine, a tick collar or a flea. Talk to some vet who can help you with the cause.
- Avoid using places with tall grass or trees having low branches. Keep yourself to areas where you get direct sunlight.
- Prefer wearing full clothes. Wear light colored clothes because it helps you to see these parasites if they have already found a place on your body.
- After returning from a walk, move your fingers over your body and hair. Do not forget to check your underarms, ears and groin. Check and change your clothes as well.
If you find a tick attached to your skin, do not panic. Use tweezers and slowly pull the tick out with its help. Put the tick on a vial, close it properly and consult your doctor. Wash your hands properly after doing this. There are preventive antibiotics available in the market for this purpose. You can take it only after consulting a doctor.
