Paneling

Paneling lets the layers show and gives your hair greater contrast and depth. The idea of paneling started as a means of creating layers that were more distinctly differentiated and expanded on. The technique can be used in a variety of ways, and can create both more “mainstream” styles, and “edgier” looks. The effect creates “panels” of hair that seem to move independently, hence, the term ‘paneling'. Hair paneling, is great for brunettes because it adds depth and richness to otherwise flat colored hair. Patina wood panels are used to separate your hair as parts of it are painted with one color. In its final stage, the colors are blended together smoothly with a toner/gloss. Ask about it at your salon!

Who it works for: This cut works beautifully on fine hair. It's a short, edgier twist on layers that give you more volume. Hair that's too thick ends up looking like a mullet.

Tell your hairstylist: Instead of cutting on top of the hair, pull up the top layer and cut shorter, more angular pieces underneath.

How to do Paneling?

The hair on top of a particular section is cut so that the upper layers of the hair are longest, and the layers beneath are cut shorter. This gives more fullness to the hair, thus creating volume, while allowing the hair to be light and moveable.

Paneling Hairstyles & Haircuts Tips

  • Don't wash your hair everyday unless it's really oily. This style looks very "Bad Girl" when it's a little dirty.
  • These styles can be parted in a different location to reveal a completely different, much wilder cut hidden within the style.
Depending on the colors you select, the effect can range from a subtle contrast to extremely bold, such as Blythe's.
  • If you want Paneling dye job to vanish before your return to classes, use temporary hair coloring that rinses out when you wash your hair.
  • paneling hair cutting technique for more fullness and volume
